Rising Sun

We went to Indiana today. Chris was off and said 'hey, we haven't been to Indiana yet, wanna go for a drive?' So I picked a town on the border and off we went.

The state border for IN is about as far way as the border for OH, 15 minutes in light traffic. We made the small town of Rising Sun, IN our goal, the town is less than 2 square miles. We planned on stopping in some of the gift shops and the local winery, but by the time we got there at 4pm they were all closed. Odd for a Wednesday afternoon, but we didn't mind, we just kept driving.

In the end we wound our way along this tiny, tiny country road through the town of Milton (which isn't even on the map), it literally had a sign and a barn to let us know we'd been through a town. Eventually we followed IN-262 all the way up to Dillsboro where we found a familiar road and went back home.

It sounds simple but it was quite a road trip, We forgot our camera or I'd have great photos for you. The roads we were on felt like they hadn't been touched by time. Some were back in the 60's, others as far back as the 30's. We saw old barns, old homes that looked condemned structurally but were obviously still lived in. We saw a life size papier-mch' elephant along the side of the road with no explanation what so ever. The leaves are just starting to change and the road wound up and down hills, it was a great day, the sunroof open, windows down. Mmm...

I plan to make the drive again with more time and a camera in late October when the leaves are on fire. Pictures to follow.
