tokana's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bored in KY I had a plan. I was going to take my knitting and a book up to Starbucks and hang out. I was going to try and either start a ‘non-ant’ conversation with a fellow patron, develop a new ‘Coffee-Boy’]; or worst case enjoy being around other people. Well, talk about raining on my parade, there aren’t any Starbucks for more than 15 miles and even those are in grocery stores etc. and aren’t conducive to my plan. For now my back up plan is to relocate to a Panera or to the Starbucks in the Barnes & Noble down at the Levee… Chris wants to call up some of his buddies to see if he can hook me up to hang out with their girlfriends, but that just seems weird to me - sort of like an arranged friendship or something... Chris's mom has a friend in the area she wants me to call but again, it seems too planned. The only problem is I don't know where to go or how to go about making friends in a not prearranged manner. I have no problem starting up conversations in a Starbucks or Panera, but so many people in this world are Ants that they don’t know how to keep the conversation going so that it can develop into more than a passing pleasantry. (Side Note: I say people don’t know how because to start assuming that people don’t want to would be too depressing right now). I was skimming through the CiNweekly last night and I think that it might prove to be a good guide. There were a lot of restaurant ideas, theatre productions, art shows, local concerts and random things to do. I would prefer a local guide to help steer me away from the events in the not-so-nice neighborhoods, but I’m tough, I’ll just have to go and learn the hard way. Again, these things are more enjoyable with at least one friend or acquaintance as a security blanket, but I have to start somewhere right? I saw a Thai cooking class that just started, maybe I’ll try to sign up for the next one… Enough of that. As soon as Chris gets the office setup I’ll take pictures of the new place for everyone. If anyone else has been through the relocation thing and would like to offer some tips, they’d be highly appreciated. In the mean time, keep in touch my Orlando buddies. E-mails and phone calls help a lot. 11:38 p.m. - September 10, 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
