BBQ Delta

Before I give you the boring and mundane details about me I’ll go ahead and give you the juice on Delta. Everyone has been calling to ask how the Chapter 11 filing will effect Comair and Chris and I. Honestly, we don’t know. Comair announced about two weeks ago that they were planning to furlough 100 pilots in December. The rumors we’ve been hearing and the things we’ve been seeing though are giving us reason to think that it won’t come down to that. Comair completely owned by Delta, but Comair made more than $5 million last quarter alone so they current speculation is that a Bankruptcy Judge will force Delta to sell Comair off as a valuable asset. The current rumored offer is from GE for more than $250 million.

At this point Chris is brushing up his resume and will likely send it off to a few other commuter airlines, just in case, but we’re both pretty confident that Comair is stable and well managed and will be just fine in the long run, even if it changes owners.

So, enough business.

I am ashamed to say I still don’t have pictures of the new place yet. We had some computer issues that prevented us from clearing off the pictures on the camera and now that it’s clear and ready for more pictures, Chris has taken it on a four day trip. I will be sure to get pictures as soon as he returns though.

Things have been slowly changing for me here. I met some of Chris’s friends, his pilot buddies and their significant others. When Chris is home we’ve become the favored BBQ hosts since we have the larger, cleaner home and the larger grill. When Chris is out I’ve been meeting them here and there to hang out. They have all sort of taken me under their wings since they know I’m so bored. I still haven’t really met anyone local that isn’t somehow connected to the airline though. But I’m working on it.

I finally tracked down the information I was looking for about NKU and was able to apply. I just dropped my transcripts off and now I’m waiting for them to get back to me as to how the credits will transfer. The advisor assures me that I will at least be a first semester junior if not second semester based on how many credits I had earned while at VCC, but I’ll have to wait to see how the dean of each department rules before I’ll know for sure. Once they settle my transfer ratio they want me to take the ACT so they can combine my score on that with my GPA and possibly offer me an academic scholarship…but it would only be partial so I’m starting to spend more time investigating ways to get free money for school.

I’ve been working on the job front too. I’ve sent out an insane number of resumes the past week or and I’ve started hearing back. Seeing as it looks like I’ll be able to go back to school in the spring, I’m having a hard time deciding what I want to do. Ideally I will be able to find a part-time administrative job to get me through the fall and also work part-time in retail. Then in the spring I can keep the retail job and just go back to school. I’m still not sure how it will all pan out though, the job market isn’t so hot around here and they offer very little pay. I have gotten a lot of positive feed-back from the resumes I have sent out so we’ll see.

Anyhow. That’s the latest. I’ll try to update so often so my updates aren’t so long. Don’t forget to keep in touch!
