November
I realized I haven't been doing a very good job at keeping this up to date. The point of this site is for friends/family to be able to keep up with my life even though I'm miles away, but that theory only works if I put the important things up.
So here we go.
I have been hunting for a job and was offered several. I decided to accept a position at Michael's Craft store. I am a 'Frame Fitter & Assembler' which basically means I’m the cheap version of a robot that stands there all day assembling frames and putting the prepared art work into them. I don't get to cut mat boards, help decide what colors to use, put in orders, nope, that’s all too advanced for me. I just use their system to locate the frame and the ‘prepped’ artwork and put the two together. Then I wrap it finished product in brown paper and put it in the appropriate place out front so the customer can pick it up. I’m not even allowed to talk to customers. If everyone in the frame shop decides to go on break I have to go to because they won’t allow me to be in there by myself. All that to say, it’s not half bad. The pay sucks compared to FL, but isn’t bad by KY standards. My boss is a very cool and laid back older woman and her boss is a mellow goth guy. I’m already wowing them with my work ethic and today was my second day. I went in and started work without being told to and I went on to the next piece without direction. I finished 6 pieces in 5 hours and evidentially that was huge. Watch out Florence Michaels, I might just be pushing my way in for a promotion to ‘Frame Fitter’ and a raise to a whole $7/ hour! It’s really not that bad, I just have to joke about it all or I’ll get depressed.
I have also been hired as a Server at Carrabba's Italian Grill. I just had my orientation there today so I can’t say too much about it. I’m nervous because I’m such a huge klutz and I’m terrified of dropping stuff, but the managers have been very encouraging so it should be okay. They estimate I’ll average about $250-$400 a week depending on the time of year so at least I won’t be completely poor. Based on all of their comments so far it seems like a good company to be a part of and I love their food so I’m not worried about it too much.
I applied to NKU and was accepted. They’re evaluating my classes from VCC so we’ll see how well they transfer. If possible I’d like to attend there in the Spring. According to the Chair of the Pysch. Dept. if all of my credits transfer I could have my B.A. in Psych. in 3 semesters if I take 5 classes each semester. So that would be cool. I’d probably have to quit Michaels to do that - some how I don’t think I can pull off 15 credit hours and two jobs. The school is really close and quite impressive. The out of state fees are steep but compared to UC not bad, plus I think I can get govt. assistance and scholarships. It would be AMAZING if I could go back to school full time.
We aren’t sure what’s going on with Chris’s job. All we know right now is what the rumors are. We aren’t counting on him being employed by Comair by the end of the year though. Since his interview at Horizon was cut short, we’re hoping for Chautauqua. There’s a good chance that he could be based close enough that he could commute and we wouldn’t have to move.
There are a lot of “if’s” though. IF he gets on at Chautauqua, IF we don’t move, IF my credits transfer, blah blah…
So that’s life. But don’t just use this to keep up with me, call and e-mail. Keep in touch.
