tokana's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kentucky Resident Sorry for the delay in updates. My internet in Winter Park cut out the day after my Wander-Through (which went quite well if anyone was wondering). So much has happened since then. Mom got pneumonia but insisted on driving to KY anyhow. She's much better now. Hurricane Katrina devastated the Keys and New Orleans and then continued up through the country threatening to postpone my move. I don't mean to sound selfish here, my heart goes out to those who lost their homes and in some cases their lives in this disaster, I'm simply outlining the interesting things that occurred during my move. With Mom being sick, Megan pitched in to get everything loaded and we were on the way to my new home by 1:30 Thursday afternoon. Roger wasn't too sure about the long car ride at first but eventually resigned himself to a long two day nap. We had an interesting trip, but that all seems like ages ago now. We arrived at my new home around 4:30pm on Friday (we made great time) and unloaded the necessities and then headed off to the one location I knew how to get to - Newport on the Levee. We had the truck unloaded and returned by 11am on Saturday which left us the rest of the afternoon to explore. We wandered over into Ohio and hung out at Eden Park exploring the Conservatory and the Art Museum. I pulled a Rachel Ray and asked a volunteer at the museum if they could recommend a great local restaurant and she sent us to Pompilio's which turned out to have amazing food and very reasonable pricing. Chris came in that night which did a lot for my stress level. :) On Sunday we all piled into the car for a road trip to Hamilton which is a suburb just north of Cincinnati. Since I live in Florence which is a suburb just south of Cincinnati, we estimated a 45 minute drive time...that might have been the case had the last sign to our destination not been MIA. We found ourselves about 6 miles out of our way in the middle of the country complete with corn crops and horse farms...It was a beautiful detour though. We did eventually find our destination though and it was well worth it. Pyramid Hill Sculptor Park is such a neat concept. Check out the website, it does a far better job of explaining it than I could. Chris and I already have plans to return with a picnic when the leaves are changing. On the way back from our day trip with stopped for lunch at PennStation, another local joint, for subs. Later that night after we'd all rested up we ventured out once more for ice cream. We went to Graeter's which is only located in the immediate Cincinnati area. Wow. We all agreed it was the best ice cream we'd ever had...and I don't even usually eat ice cream! Early Monday morning I drove the gang to Louisville where they caught a flight back to Orlando. All in all, the move went very well. And considering I had just moved to the city I think we did a really good job with our site seeing. What does that leave me with? Well I am in Kentucky. My family is in Florida. My friends are in Florida. Everything I know and am familiar with is in Florida. And here I am in Kentucky. What am I thinking :) So far everything is great. I have too much to do to type much more, I have to get back to painting. I'll post pictures when everything is done. Thanks Mom, Dad, John and Megan for all of your help, I miss you already! 6:16 p.m. - September 8, 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
