tokana's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Trips C called late last night. He has a class on Friday, then a week off, then he’s off on his first trip. His first trip. That sounds so surreal to me. A ‘trip’ is used to describe the total ‘on duty’ time for a pilot. For example C’s first trip starts in Cinci and takes him all over New England, he’ll layover (sleep for 6 hours) in Cinci, then fly all over again, layover for 14 hours in Toronto and then fly all over again and end up back in Cinci. A trip could have you stopping in your hometown, sleeping in your own bed three times but you’re still on duty until the ‘trip’ is over. We’ve been talking about trips and layovers and bids for months now. But always in reference to others who have gone before him or to his future. Never in reference to him. Now, it’s him. I know I’ve only been along for about half of the ride but I’m stoked. Now he has IOE (Initial Operating Experience) where they team him up with a highly experienced and understanding Captain. He goes with this Cpt on normal, standard trips until he has X amount of hours. Then, he’s done and he’s an official ComAir First Officer. From there he’s on reserve which will be hell but we’re praying it will only last 6 months or so. After yesterday, hearing stuff like this makes me feel better. And, as icing on the cake, C is going to be able to come visit for a few days so I have much happier thoughts today. :0) 10:50 a.m. - July 19, 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
