tokana's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Humanist Tags Today on my way to work I saw a car with a Florida license plate that had the South Carolina Logo on their windshield. I’ve noticed the logo all over the place recently. I’m not sure if this is directly related to my trip to Charleston last June or if it’s just become popular all of the sudden. This train of thought led me to look into the state logo, which is actually the state flag. During my quick twenty minute search I couldn’t find any reason for this logo to have become trendy or have an special meaning… This train of though then led me remember a debate I had with my family on our last visit to SC. I commented that their license plates are new – they now have the design of the state flag on them, they used to have the state bird. My family insisted I was incorrect. I told ya so!:oP The search for this proof led me to find this…which of course led me here. After I got done giggling at the fact that there is a humanist group in the ‘low lands’ (don’t ask me why that’s funny) I started thinking about it. Having been raised in a Pentecostal/Christian home, my first reaction was ‘whatever’. But the more I thought about it, I think it’s a fair substitution. Instead of just removing the line ‘In God we Trust’, replace it with something everyone believes in. Granted, I don’t always believe that others have reason, but I do believe in the idea of reason…interesting concept. Of course I started searching for a sunshine state humanist group and found one. Maybe I’ll look into going to a meeting of the local chapter. If nothing else it will provide interesting food for thought and maybe I’ll meet some cool people... 5:16 p.m. - March 14, 2005 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
