Non-Questions II

Update to previous post

I got in to work this morning, went to get my regular mocha at the coffee machine and had this conversation:

------------------
CoWorker enters break room –

Me: Good Morning CoWorker
CW: Hi Sara, how’s it going
Me: It’s cold out there today huh?
CW: (chuckles) It’s going that good huh?
Me: (laughs also) Eh. I just got jipped out of my weekend – I spent the whole time being productive, and now I regret not relaxing a bit…

Conversation goes on for several minutes as we prepare our caffeine fixes.
--------------------

This particular co-worker called me on my failure to answer their question and made it clear that they were genuinely interested in the answer. Hence, I had no problem providing it.

The majority of the time, when people ask the standard question and I fail to actually answer, they don’t even notice. They’re so absorbed in themselves and their day that it wouldn’t have mattered what response I gave – so giving none at all wouldn’t have made a difference. If they do care and expect a response, all they have to do is ask once more or call me on my lack of answer and I’ll gladly provide one.
