SPOONS

SPOONS.

On the surface it's a harmless card game. But beware - it can get quite dangerous.

Needed:
- At least one deck of cards.
- Spoons (other objects can be used, but health hazards may arise)
- At least three players (approx. age 5+)

Objects: - Get four of a kind or a run.
- To get a spoon.

Play:
- There should be N-1 spoons, so for 4 players there should be 3 spoons.
-The spoons should be placed in the middle of the players within even grasp of all players.
-The dealer gives four cards to each player and places the remaining deck in front of them.
- They then procceed to pick up one card and they then have to discard one card. - The discards are placed face down to their left.
- The next player then takes the discarded card and repeats the process - this continues around the table until there is a discard pile back at the dealer.
- This process should be fast and can happen simultaneously once the dealer starts the flow of cards.
-If the dealer runs out of cards they then start on the discarded pile.
- When a player has either four of a kind or a run they then grab a spoon from the pile.
- Once the other players realize a spoon is missing, they all mus tgrab one as well - who ever is left without a spoon is the looser of the round.

A scorer should right down an S for the looser - once a player as received S-P-O-O-N-S they are out. Last one in wins.

Sounds innocent enough right?

Wrong.

People get very into it. Some are very slick when they grab their spoon and it can be minutes before anyone else realizes it. Often the spoons go flying and people go diving after them.

Plastic Spoons can be the worst because they break. It two people grab the same spoon and fight, the spoon could potentially break leaving each with a weapon!

Now, this is how my family plays it. There have been many broken nails, several laserations, a few tickelings, some surprising words from people and even some diving under chairs and over tables.

While doing research for this post I found that other have had similar experiences.

I also found some different rules - we'll have to try these sometime to see how they compare.

I also found that, as usual, America has turned it into something to be marketed.

SPOONS even made the top five at about.com.

Anyhow, try it sometime, let me know how it goes - be careful though, the hospital bills could add up. :0)
